EtymologyEdit

Unofficial name. Unnamed by characters in the manga.

DescriptionEdit

A female version of Isley's Northern Army. Led by Octavia. Chronos and his male companion Lars are often mistaken as being part of the group. The total number of females in the group is at least 17 (see additional details).

Miria mentions that a No. 3 and 5 are among the group.[2]

HistoryEdit

The Ghosts and Raki have returned to the Holy City of Rabona.

VisitorsEdit

DiscoveryEdit

Raki spots a young woman sitting hillside. When he suggests she accompany him and his companions to Rabona, she says the city is deserted. Deneve warns Raki away as this woman is an awakened being. Then Raki notices a dozen or so "humans" watching the city from the hills, all but two being female.[3]

Deneve says they are all awakeneds. Miria adds that they appear to be former single-digits with high baselines. When Miria accuses them of "disappearing" the inhabitants, the female awakened suggests that Miria ask the Rabona guards and Miria's comrades as to what happened. Tabitha senses the auras of Galatea, Clarice and Miata are still inside the city.[4]

ChronosEdit

Helen asks why the gathering. A bearded man says they wish to see both the emergence of the strongest awakened being ever—and the faces of the warriors who destroyed the Organization.[5]

As the Ghosts leave, Miria identifies the bearded man as Chronos, the former No. 4 of the Initial Male Era. His male companion is No. 6, Lars. The woman Raki just spoke to is "Wild Horse" Octavia, No. 2. of an unnamed era.

Despite Chronos' confidence that the awakeneds can escape unharmed should the situation get out of hand, Miria expresses doubts.[6]

Binary entityEdit

AttackEdit

When Priscilla escapes the cocoon, she makes for the awakeneds in the hills. Chronos notes the odd behavior of Priscilla, ignoring the easy targets among the Claymore warriors and the humans in the city.[7]

Chronos warns Lars to evade. Tentacles explode from Priscilla's position, hitting some of the spectators, who awaken into a myriad of forms. Octavia reveals her double-helical ability, uncoiling her tubular body in avoiding the tentacles.

The Iron maiden awakened, who splits open a teeth-lined interior, counterattacks with tentacles of her own. Still another awakened reveals Swiss Army knife-like arms.[8]

One struck awakened shrivels up as life force is drained from her body.[9]

Chronos now realizes that the "attack" on the awakeneds is unintended. A new binary "entity," made up of the Destroyer and Priscilla, are resuming their combat fought elsewhere. But now the spectators are caught up in the maelstrom and becoming collateral damage.[10]

Two combatsEdit

Twin towers explode in Rabona. Inside each tower, a female awakened recovers from being hurled back by the Destroyer–Priscilla combat.

The towers burst apart as they awakened into huge tapeworm- and origami bird-like forms. The Tapeworm awakened has tapeworm-shaped tentacles. The Origami awakened has a Smiley head.[11]

Tapeworm awakenedEdit

Miria and Clare race to find the vital core. Clare realizes her movements are those of Rafaela, who used a Yoma energy membrane technique, allowing Clare to sense movement beyond her peripheral vision. Miria and Clare reach the last torso and together they make the final strike.[12]

Origami awakenedEdit

Deneve and Co. still confront Origami. Miata again attacks and creates a massive wound, but Origami instantly regenerates. Deneve observes that only a single attack that destroys most of the body will work.[13]

Helen winds up her arm 55 times for a Drill Sword attack. Before Origami can escape, Galatea uses Yoma Energy Alignment and Control to immobilize her. Helen's attack destroys Origami.[14]

Round IIEdit

Destroyer–Priscilla becomes preoccupied with Riful's daughter. The Ghosts are defeated in Round I of the engagement against Cassandra.

Joining the fightEdit

Terrified, Chronos and Lars are aghast at the turn of events. Miria's plan to stop Cassandra has apparently failed. While the male awakeneds are fearful of engaging Cassandra, the more powerful Octavia and her party prove less afraid and decide to take matters into their own hands.[15]

CassandraEdit

In the forest, Octavia's party have joined the Ghosts in trying to stop Cassandra. When Cassandra's headed tentacles attack, the Ghosts dodge. When a tentacle tries eating Octavia's comrade, the head suddenly protrude with blades from inside, then bursts apart, the prey changing into a flying "death star" with folding blades. [16]

Another awakened develops Dauf-like arms and lands punches that break apart another tentacled head.[17]

Still another head is lassoed by the awakened Iron maiden, who splits opens an anglerfish-like orifice lined with teeth. The lassoed head is pulled in and the orifice shuts. [18]

SurroundedEdit

An avian "raptor awakened" now attacks Cassandra. Octavia herself awakens into a variant of a centaur. With her long dark hair she appears like a demonic version of Lady Godiva. She uncoils an arm—a double-helix of Yoma tissue strips—and flails Cassandra. But the thongs destroy the landscape as well, causing the Ghosts to flee.[19] Cassandra is now surrounded by Octavia's party.[20]

DefeatEdit

PriscillaCassandra uses the Dusteater technique to counterattack and destroys most of Octavia's party. Europa herself is beheaded. Round II of the engagement ends in defeat for Octavia's party.[21]

Round IIIEdit

RetreatEdit

At a safe distance, the Ghosts watch the mayhem. Helen acknowledges that Miria ordered a retreat in time. Miria already knew the form of the oncoming attack and credits Audrey for intelligence on Cassandra's technique.

Helen is concerned about Cassandra changing into Priscilla. When Clare begins to release Yoma energy in response to Priscilla's “presence,” Miria warns Clare to calm down—the transformation is not yet complete.[22]

ChronosEdit

Octavia and her remaining comrade are dismayed at the failure of their first attack. Helen thinks only two members of Octavia's party have survived. But Chronos corrects Helen and throws Europa's still-living head near the Ghosts.[23]

Chronos concedes that he and Lars must join the fight. Lars identifies Europa and describes her special technique—feigning death. As Europa fully awakens, Chronos reveals her moniker, “Europa the Lazy.” He points out that Europa is the only one present that is close in power to an Abyssal One.[24]

When the awakened Europa asks for human food in exchange for killing Cassandra, Miria refuses, but points out that if Europa does not stop Cassandra, Europa's food supply will be endangered anyway. Europa accepts this reasoning and attacks Cassandra.[25]

Both Chronos and Lars awaken, revealing similar biped forms. They join the assault on Priscilla–Cassandra, as do Miria and Clare. Octavia immobilizes Priscilla–Cassandra, preventing her from using the Dusteater. This allows Europa to use her version of the "Trimmer" technique.

The three female and two male awakeneds weaken Priscilla–Cassandra enough for Clare to attack. She eviscerates the thorax of Cassandra's body,[26]

The old Cassandra pilot torso returns, as does Cassandra's sense of self. Helen notices that Cassandra is not moving as slowly as before. Miria suspects that under Priscilla's spell, Cassandra's movements were restrained—Cassandra took far more injuries here than when fighting Roxanne in Sutfafu. But by destroying the Priscilla pilot torso, Clare inadvertently unleashed Cassandra's true power.[27]

EuropaEdit

Europa suddenly leaves the battlefield, hunger pangs overtaking her urge to fight Cassandra. Europa cannot resist the smell of human entrails from the Holy City of Rabona.[28]

Additional detailsEdit

NotesEdit

  • Calculating the minimal total of Octavia's party:
    • When Chronos visits Rabona, he says over half the awakened were killed by Priscilla. Only nine survived[29]
    • The total number of awakened at the beginning of the arc is at least 19. Multiple 9 survivors by 2 is 18, plus a minimum of 1 is 19
    • Minus Chronos and Lars, the minimal total of Octavia's party is at least 17 before the arrival of Priscilla and Cassandra
