In a flashback, an earlier frail, untransformed Undine stands over the body of her friend, lying facedown with an empty sword carrier. Undine holds her friend's Claymore sword. The friend appears to have short hair.[2]

Engagement IEdit

After the first engagement with the three scouts, an argument occurs between Miria and Undine. In the manga, Undine brusquely asks Cynthia where the supplies are. Cynthia sends her to the shed behind the Eastern Inn. There, Deneve discovers Undine's true form. Deneve implies that Undine's friend died because Undine was too weak to save her life.[3]

In the anime, Deneve implies that Undine's friend died saving Undine's life.[4] In either case, Undine takes up her friend's Claymore sword.

Engagement IIEdit

In the manga, Deneve takes up Undine's sword in the church plaza before last stand against the Northern Army.[5] In the anime, before pursuing Clare to the volcano, Deneve takes up Undine's sword in the lobby of the Eastern Inn.[6]

After the 7-year timeskip, the sword of Undine's friend appears as Undine's grave-mark.[7]
